Infected with or without signs or symptoms of STD

The difference between sexually transmitted disease ( STD) and sexually transmitted infections ( STIs) is more than a semantic one and has implications for the environment in which STI screening tests ordered and the cost of the tests.

Infectious disease of any kind differs from infection alone in the disease connotes signs and / or symptoms of disease. Similarly STD differs from STI in the STD is associated with signs and / or symptoms of infection causes STD , while the STI is often silent and hidden . Although the latter is sometimes called asymptomatic STD is more appropriate or accurate term is STI because it is a state of being infected with or without signs or symptoms of STD . In essence, STI , which came into vogue in recent years , an all-encompassing term that refers to both the STD and STIs . It also represents what used to be called venereal diseases or VD .
